TRANSPARENCY THROUGH OUR SUPPLY CHAIN
We transform stories into timeless pieces, but we don’t do it alone. Our partners share our commitment to do things differently and share our values. Remu Apparel would not be a reality without the people & companies that share our passion. We think it is just fair for you to know exactly where your Remu Apparel garments are coming from and who is manufacturing them - so let us introduce our amazing partners.
Artisans
Raquel Llumiquinga – Miranda, Ecuador
Raquel was the very first artisan we worked with, and today, she is the head seamstress overseeing production at Remu. For over eight years, Raquel’s home studio has been the heart of our operations—where all the Remu magic happens. She has transformed her small home into the largest in her community, with an entire floor dedicated to production. Her family and friends, including her husband Wilmer, mother, niece, and neighbors, work alongside her, making her studio a vibrant center of community. Through the years, we’ve become like family—I’m even honored to be the godfather of her daughter, a role of deep respect in Ecuador. Raquel’s warmth and skill are unmatched; her ever-present smile and love for sharing meals with the team make every gathering feel special.
Sofia – Miranda, Ecuador
Sofia, Raquel’s cousin and neighbor, has been with us since nearly the beginning. Initially shy, Sofia now brings joy and laughter to the team, making her studio a wonderful place to work. She handles details like pockets and rivets with meticulous care, and her eye for precision has made her an invaluable part of our team. Sofia’s children often play alongside Raquel’s kids and the other artisans’ children, creating a family-centered environment where work and community intertwine.
Wilmer – Miranda, Ecuador
Raquel’s husband, Wilmer, joined our team during the pandemic after losing his job. His transition to working alongside Raquel represents a major step toward gender equality, as our mission is to empower women to become community leaders and breadwinners. A quiet yet kind-hearted man, Wilmer helps with pattern cutting and machine maintenance, utilizing skills from his previous job as a mechanic. His role is essential, and his support adds a new dimension to the Remu family.
Jenny – Miranda, Ecuador
Wilmer’s eldest sister, Jenny, is the quietest of the team, known for her exceptional dedication to quality. She takes her time, ensuring every piece is crafted to perfection. Jenny values precision over speed, a mindset that aligns perfectly with our commitment to excellence.
Mrs. Llumiquinga – Miranda, Ecuador
Raquel’s mother, lovingly known as Mrs. Llumiquinga, brings warmth and joy to the studio. Often found inspecting finished pieces with a tiny cutter, she ensures every stitch is secure. She’s also known for preparing meals when the team gathers, nurturing both her family and the team with food and kindness.
Natalia – Miranda, Ecuador
Natalia, Wilmer’s younger sister, brings youthful energy to the studio. At 19, she’s studying to become a seamstress with dreams of one day becoming a fashion designer. She’s the first in the community to formally pursue this path, bringing humor and a fresh perspective to the team, and showing the younger generation that they, too, can make a meaningful impact.
JESSICA GANSINO - CONOCOTO, ECUADOR
Jessica is less talkative than her cousin Anita, however her talent for complex stitchings and her outside-the-box thinking abilities, make her an important part of the team. Her studio is located in her home in Conocoto, Ecuador. She is a passionate mother and a fast learner.
ANITA'S WORKSHOP - CONOCOTO, ECUADOR
The first thing you notice when you meet Anita is the big smile that accompanies her wherever she goes. Her great personality and humor are coupled with her fine-tuned attention for detail. Anita works from her studio in Conocoto, a once-great agricultural zone in the outskirts of Quito.
MARIO LLUMIQUINGA - MIRANDA, ECUADOR
We met Mario through our manufacturing partner Raquel. She told us her brother was a blacksmith and that he could help us with the buttons for our jackets. We are really fond of the community of Miranda and once we saw the opportunity to expand our supply chain and further impact this small community we took it.
Amada Quishpe – Quito, Ecuador
Amada is the expert behind our Tagua buttons, sourcing Tagua nuts directly from the Amazon. Her workshop on the outskirts of Quito is where she transforms these natural materials into the buttons that complete our garments. Amada’s work connects Ecuador’s natural beauty to every Remu piece.
Our Partners: Fibers
We aim to source upcycled or organic materials when possible in order to upset the production of new & polluting materials thus reducing our impact & the amount of waste along our supply chain. We always try to source locally to promote the local economy and minimize our carbon footprint by facilitating transportation. Our fiber and material partners are the best in the business and all of them operate locally and share our same values and principles.
Sandy Lema – Peguche, Ecuador
Based near Otavalo, Sandy and her family have crafted blankets for generations. She is our main supplier for the blankets used in our Peguche Jackets, each piece carrying forward a legacy of Andean craftsmanship. Her work adds a layer of tradition and warmth to our designs.
Andes Materials – Salasaka, Ecuador
Andes Materials supplies us with handmade threads, yarns, and fabrics crafted by the Sanjaloma community in Salasaka. This partnership preserves traditional textile methods, where each material respects nature and Ecuadorian heritage. Andes Materials revitalizes ancient techniques, aligning perfectly with Remu’s values and commitment to sustainable fashion.
